Playing in Europa League is strange, but we hope to win it, says United striker Hernandez
Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez has conceded it is for the club to be playing in the Europa League, but is confident they will do their best to win the competition.
United will make their first ever appearance in the Europa League against Ajax on Thursday night after crashing out of the Champions League group stage in December.
And while the Old Trafford club cannot now add a fourth European Cup to their trophy cabinet, Hernandez hopes they can go all the way.
Weird: Hernandez believes it is odd for United to play in the Europa League
He told MUTV: 'The Champions League is the best competition in Europe and it's a bit strange to be in the Europa League. But we want to win every tournament we enter.
'Both teams have a lot of history in Europe, so it should be a great game.'
He added: 'Playing at home in the second leg is important but it's only a small advantage – it doesn't guarantee victory.
'It'll be a difficult game but we'll go to Amsterdam looking to win.'
