It”s top secret: Mark Bright – TV presenter and former striker reveals all
Who is your Sporting hero
It was Pele. He was the person I saw most on TV when I was young. It was unbelievable all those clips of him going round three or four players and scoring.
What would you be if you weren”t a sportsman
Before I got into football I was a hydraulic engineer. I got my City and Guilds qualification when I was 18 so I was an engineer by trade. I still go back to visit the boys, some are still there 30 years on.
Which other sportsman would you like to be
Michael Jordan. He was head and shoulders above anybody else.
Walking out at Wembley for the 1990 FA Cup Final. For a club like Crystal Palace to be walking out side-by-side with Manchester United was something else.
Legend: Michael Jordan
…And the worst moment
Any of the three finals I lost there! There was that one and then two for Sheffield Wednesday in 1993 against Arsenal. So much for third time lucky.
If your house was burning down, what one possession would you save
An essay my son wrote about the person he most admired in the world being his dad. He wrote it this year. He”s 11.
Karaoke favourite: Bright a dead-ringer for Prince
Favourite karaoke song
I used to sing Purple Rain when we had karaoke at home at Christmas. When I went down on to my knees, someone took the microphone off me.
Three most-listened to songs on your ipod
I can”t stop listening to Ashford & Simpson”s It Seems To Hang On. It”s an old song and it used to get played when I went to clubs when I was younger. We used to hear it and think “tune!”.
Last film you saw
I downloaded some film about love on to my iPad. I can”t remember the name for the life of me!
Last book you read
Wilful Blindness by Margaret Heffernan. Kriss Akabusi recommended it to me. It”s about how we choose not to confront the obvious because we don”t want to disrupt our lives. It”s very good.
Can you cook Best dish
I can. My brother and I used to live together when I was 17 or 18 and I learnt to do Penne Arrabiata. A chef in an Italian restaurant showed me how. You cook it really slowly, for an hour or so.
Your Favourite holiday destination
I go to Barbados every summer with my boy. I like it there.
Leading role: Denzel Washington would be Bright”s choice
In a film of your life, who would you like to play you
Anyone but Ian Wright! Maybe Denzel Washington
What”s the most expensive thing you”ve ever bought
That”s hard. Not much, though I did buy a Range Rover when I was still playing.
Tell us a secret…
I really like Downton Abbey and got the full box set for Christmas.
