It seems fitting that on St Georges Day, the lionheart spirit of the England football team is shown off in all its glory.

As excitement steadily rises ahead of the European Championships in June, expectant members of the squad – and Stewart Downing – have posed with the iconic animal usually found emblazoned on their shirt.

And the squad, plus their furry friends, mean business.

With preparation for the tournament far from ideal, the likes of France, Ukraine and Sweden – all of whom are in England's group – not to mention Spain, Holland and Germany, have little fear of facing the managerless England team.

So while the likes of Theo Walcott, Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard looked fierce alonside the kings of the jungle, perhaps they might be well served trying to sign up Simba and his pals.
