David Moyes has telephoned Burton Albion with a recommendation for the vacant manager’s job.

Everton’s boss has contacted Brewers’ chairman Ben Robinson asking him to consider former Toffees’ favourite Craig Short for the position.

Short was formerly in charge at Notts County and had spent a short spell as manager of Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros.

Since leaving Meadow Lane he has been working with Derby County’s academy.
Following Tuesday night’s victory over Gillingham, their first in 2012, the pressure is off Robinson to make an appointment before the end of the season.

Caretaker Gary Rowett is likely to remain in charge. Former Barnsley boss Mark Robins is among the favourites to take over.
