Hodgson wants 'The Onion' to in the bag to give West Brom more bite
West Bromwich Albion have launched an ambitious bid to sign Porto winger Cristian Rodriguez.
The Uruguay international is available on loan and is eager to come to England. The 26-year-old was amusingly nicknamed 'Cebolla' or 'the Onion' from his time with Penarol in Uruguay when it was said he 'made the opposing defence cry'.

Manager Roy Hodgson is after pace and width after losing Zoltan Gera and Chris Brunt to injury. The one problem will be selling West Brom to Rodriguez as he was keen to join a bigger club.
Hodgson is also looking to sign Dundee United midfielder Scott Allan and another striker. He is keen on Wolves' Kevin Doyle but they are unlikely to sell and has made an enquiry for Bristol City's Nicky Maynard with the possibility of Chris Wood going on loan as part of the deal. Wolves have also shown interest in Maynard while Swansea have also expressed interest.

The 25-year-old is valued at 4million but is out of contract in the summer and Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of beating his rivals.
Rodgers remains favourite to sign Josh McEachran on loan from Chelsea. Meanwhile, defender Vangelis Moras is set to leave the south Wales club. The Greek was drafted in after a trial in October, but has been told his deal will not be renewed when it expires on January 15.
