Alan Pardew praised Chris Hughton —
then prepared to bring about his downfall by using the player who was
perhaps his greatest legacy to Newcastle.

The value of midfielder Cheick Tiote
has soared since Hughton, now in charge of Sunday's visitors Norwich,
paid FC Twente 3.5million for him four months before he was sacked by
Mike Ashley.

Now Tiote is set for a return after damaging his calf on the opening day of the season.

Pardew said: ‘We’ve missed his intensity. It’s the same with Fabricio Coloccini.

‘Take Paul Scholes and Nemanja Vidic out of the Manchester United team and they look like there’s something missing. It’s the same with us. Cheick’s a real lion.

‘Chris left a decent side here and a good winning spirit.’
