Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is on the verge of taking over at big-spending French side Paris Saint-Germain.
The capital club, who are keen to sign David Beckham, are widely expected to part ways with Antoine Kombouare despite leading the French league going into the winter break.
PSG declined comment on the reports, but issued a statement on Thursday saying it had “started amicable discussions” with Kombouare to resolve the situation.
Out with the old: Carlo Ancelotti is set to replace Antoine Kombouare at PSG
French daily Le Parisien said on Friday that Ancelotti is expected to sign for two and a half years and will take charge by January 1, with L”Equipe and Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport also saying the former AC Milan and Chelsea coach is set to take over.
Ancelotti has been out of work since being dismissed by Chelsea on the final day of last season and has often said he was waiting for another job in England, possibly at Tottenham.
However now it seems the Italian has been lured by the promises of a treasure trove of cash to spend on making PSG one of Europe”s premier clubs once again.
Thumbs up: Beckham could be next
Reports suggested the deal was reached on Wednesday with Ancelotti now in Canada enjoying a holiday before taking up the reins in the new year. Frenchman and former Parma midfielder Sabri Lamouchi will be his assistant.
Should Ancelotti confirm his appointment, it is widely expected that he will be joined by Beckham, who played under him at Milan.
The 36-year-old was believed to have approved an 18-month deal that will include an after-tax salary of €800,000 (670,000) a month.
Despite the player”s representatives claiming no such deal was in place,, Le Parisien, which has excellent contacts at France”s richest club, said: “It”s done! After four months of negotiation, the capital”s club has just received an agreement in principle from David Beckham. He will sign the document next January.”
The package is said to include a new home in the Paris area for Beckham”s family, and school places for his sons, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine and Cruz, six.
Beckham”s wife, Victoria, is said to have visited the French capital to look at apartments to rent in the city, and at family homes on the outskirts. Beckham”s five-year contract with LA Galaxy ends on December 31.
