And due to the contagious nature of the bug, Freedman is this morning sweating on further casualties ahead of the Carling Cup semi-final first leg at Selhurst Park.

‘We’ve done everything we can to stop it but it has spread even over the weekend,’ he said. ‘There are six or seven that had the effects of this virus. Some had it, some trying to get rid of it, some just coming on.

‘I don’t know about my team until 5pm tomorrow. My worry is if it catches any more. I’m dreading the phone call tomorrow morning saying somebody new has got it.’
