Southampton snap up Sharp shooter as Doncaster accept bid for striker Billy
Billy Sharp is set to join Southampton after Doncaster confirmed they had accepted a bid for the striker.
Sharp is also understood to have agreed personal terms and to be undergoing a medical on the south coast.
The 25-year-old – who has 10 goals in 20 appearances this season despite Doncaster's struggles in the Championship relegation zone – has been the subject of speculation throughout the January transfer window and rejected a move to Leicester earlier in the month.
He's off: Billy Sharp is set to leave Doncaster for Southampton
An improved contract offer is on the table for Sharp at the Keepmoat Stadium, but an afternoon statement from manager Dean Saunders on the club's official Twitter page made it clear that a deal with Southampton for the former Scunthorpe and Sheffield United forward is at an advanced stage.
'Dean 'we have accepted a deal for Billy from Southampton and he is having a medical now' DRFC,' read the tweet.
Sharp has long been a transfer target for Saints boss Nigel Adkins, who worked with Sharp at Scunthorpe, with a proposed move in the summer falling through.
