Arsenal 1 Manchester United 2: Valencia and Welbeck keep up the pressure on City
Manchester United kept up the pressure at the top of the Premier League with victory at the Emirates Stadium.
With Manchester City beating Tottenham in a five-goal thriller earlier in the day, Sir Alex Ferguson needed a win to close to within three points.
United were dealt a massive blow when
Phil Jones was carried off on a stretcher with quarter of an hour gone
after injuring his ankle.
But it was the visitors who went ahead in time added on at the end of the first half when Antonio Valencia got his head to Ryan Giggs' cross.
Robin van Persie wasted a golden chance to level shortly after the restart but he made amends with a cool finish with just under 20 minutes left.
United kept at it though and Welbeck's emphatic finish, after good work from Valencia on the right, secured the points.
