Anzhi Makhachkala appoint Sergei Krasnozhan as manager

Forget Capello, Mourinho and Hiddink, Krasnozhan”s our man! Mega-rich Anzhi opt for Lokomotiv Moscow reject

Fabio Capello is set to miss out on a bumper payday with mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala after the Russian Premier League outfit appointed boss Yuri Krasnozhan on a five-year deal.

The 65-year-old Italian, who has always insisted the England job will be his last, was apparently a target of the Dagestan-based club when his contract with the Football Association expires after Euro 2012.

Ambitious Anzhi, bankrolled by billionaire businessman Suleyman Kerimov, were prepared to offer Capello – who earns 6million a year from the FA – a similarly eye-watering salary to work with the highest paid player in the world, Samuel Eto”o, in the war-torn province.

But instead of attempting to lure Capello, Real Madrid coach or the out-of-work former Russia coach Guus Hiddink, Anzhi opted for Krasnozhan.

The 48-year-old was given the boot by Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this season for showing “negligence in his job” following a controversial defeat by Anzhi.

With Anzhi finishing 7th in the top flight, he takes over the reins from caretaker coaches Roberto Carlos and Andrei Gordeyev.

“I’m very grateful to the Anzhi bosses for entrusting me with these hugeresponsibilities,” Krasnozhan told the club’s website.
